...to the lake...

after watching the Cinnamon Fern uncurl...
(and missing milo terribly...)

yesterday, we decided to do the 40 minute drive to Lake Lochloosa.
since we've been having lots of rain lately, we figured the water level would be high enough
to get our 'gheenoe' in.
we could paddle around...troll around...sam could do some fishing...
and i could get some pictures.

rather than posting a long line of photos, i decided to do a collage...of the
Lochloosa skies, butterflies, alligators, egrets, anhinga, herons, water lilies and eagles.

“A lake is a landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature.
It is Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.”
~Henry David Thoreau, Walden

thanks for stopping by.
have a great week.

stay cool. be safe.

dragonfly perched on my 'pokey-stick, which sam tooled for me at his work...
i use it to poke in the ground...searching for treasures out back...

  1. I tried planting some Cinnamon Ferns that I bought online many years ago, but they died. I don't think I had they right environment for them to grow.
    Great photos Laura!
So you guys paddled around those Gators in a Gheenoe??

    1. LUCKILY, rick...the gators have NOT come right up to us in the gheenoe!! THAT would be a little scary...usually they just move on...or go underwater...we haven't run into any aggressive ones...fortunately!!

  2. Great photos Laura . . . Relaxing, pleasant day for you, I am sure. Missing Milo, your companion for so many years, must be very sad. Thinking of you and caring . . .

Is the Cinnamon Fern a wood fern. If you have a picture of it in bloom, could you post it or email. We have HUGE ostrich ferns I planted a few years back. They are a (good) invasive where I have them. They stand 4-5 feet and on the North side of the house I have a large border of them. Love when the wind blows and they billow and sway. Nature pleasure doesn't cost much money does it!

I'm thinking Milo would be real sad that you aren't already out there showing off all those special spots....with another purr-fectly lonesome kitty looking for love.....What the world/soul needs now is love sweet love....oh yes we do!

  5. I looked up Lake Lochloosa, not knowing where it is, googled "images" and NONE compare to the loveliness that you have captured so artfully. Milo does not miss you quite so much because Milo is right there , beside you or snoozing in the sun. Animals are like that...they stick around for a while. Our kitty is still here, I notice it when the house is quiet. I very nearly put a bowl of water out for him yesterday- that is how present he is. Could be wishful hopeful on my part, the mind is a funny thing- but explain the paper ball being batted around at night...

  6. Było na co patrzeć na wspaniałej wyciecze. Piękne ptaki, kwiaty, motyle i aligatory, których bym się bała :(. Roślina z pierwszych zdjęć jest niesamowita, a ważka śliczna. Pozdrawiam.
It was to look at the wonderful excursions. Beautiful birds, flowers, butterflies and alligators, which I was afraid: (. Plant in the first picture is amazing, a beautiful dragonfly. Yours.

    1. hey leenie! we've had the Gheenoe for a few years now...and we love it...
very much like a canoe...closer to the water, and you can go very shallow, which is good for around here...since the water can get pretty low. and with the flat back, you can add a small motor for trolling around!

  9. A beautiful collage - I wonder if you made it on Photoshop or something else?

You would love all of the cool ferns we have in this country - especially the tree ferns!

  10. Looking at your photos, I can feel my frozen Michigan batteries being recharged. There was ice on the car yesterday here and I'm missing those southern temps already.

  11. Hi Laura, your lake shots are beautiful and of course I love all the birds. Lovely quote and the dragonfly is a great capture. Hopefully, Sam will be ready for another kitty soon. I am sure there are many choices for adoption. Have a great week!

  13. I bet you missed Milo! What a lot of great shots. The dragonfly is awesome, though!! Can see the sparkles! Looks like a fun trip.

PS I'd really need a pokey stick if I was walking around anywhere down there--probably two! One for the ground and one for the trees so I didn't walk into spider webs--ROFL!! ;)

  15. Hey that collage had lots of cool pics in it. I did have to blow it up to get closer looks of some pretty cool animals and birds in there. And the dragonfly is beautiful. I've never seen one with those colors before. Very beautiful area you live.
