you probably know by now...
i find...
collect...
clean...
decorate...
the bones i use were dumped in nearby fields by hunters.
a couple of times, i picked up roadkill (an armadillo & raccoon).
they were right there...on my street...pleading for me to take them home!! :]
anyway...i make vial jewelry with small bones inside.
i decorate jawbones and skulls.
the butterfly & dragonfly wings i use in some of my art
are wings that were found by me, sam or my son.
recently i started playing around with some of the smaller bones.
"hmmmm...playing around??", you say. "who plays with bones?!!"
i do! :]
i started making abstract designs...weird...creations...on a piece of felt.
i snap a picture and then take it apart.
sam started calling them "BoNE DooDLES". exactly!
i'm just doodling...foolin' around...not with pen...but with bones.
this page will show my doodles...enjoy the weirdness!
after posting this picture...of THIS bOne dOOdle...
i got this comment...and i have to thank snow violent's The Land of Nod for this...
"Sometimes, before attaching the handle,
shaman makes a drawing of a spiral symbol (clockwise or counterclockwise)
on the inner side of his bouben (bouben- like a tambourine or drum).
The clockwise spiral means
the shaman's ability to travel through the Upper Worlds.
the counter-clockwise spiral means
that the shaman can travel through the Bottom Worlds,
and for powerful shaman the figure can consist of two spirals,
one spiral leads to another —
something like a lemniscate or the symbol of infinity."
oOo
after creating this NEXT BoNE DooDLE...
once again, i received the similarity of THIS symbol to the Shaman's
look at the similarity following this bone piece.
when i saw this, all the hairs on my arms and head stood straight up.
i've always felt a linking to native american...or tribal ways.
a past life? flowing through my veins?
it fascinates me.
