friday's fringe 34 ~ barking at the moon

while trimming back some dead palmetto leaves
we spotted the largest tree frog i've ever seen...

you probably won't mistake their bark for the neighbor's dog...
sounds kind of like a smallish dog with a sore throat!

(this next shot makes me think of the commercial "Got Milk?")  woof.
Barking Treefrog/Hyla Gratiosa

although they usually do most of their barking at night,
we saw this one during the day.
he didn't bark at us...
OR the moon.
but he could have!

the moon framed by the trees at 7:30AM  on the 1st of december

(go HERE and scroll down to the link to listen to their bark)

giving in to the moon

it's been getting down to the high 30's/low 40's the past couple of nights.
staying pretty much in the 60's during the day.
(yay! flannel shirt weather! i love it!)
darkness lasting longer in the morning...
and coming earlier in the evening.
moon shadows.

daytime bugs & critters take advantage of the sun's warm rays.

flowers are still blooming...

butterflies are still feeding
Gulf Fritillary on Blue Mist

there are still plenty of dragonflies

lizards & frogs soaking up the sun's warmth

a lone mushroom not ready to give in to the cooler weather

 and now...the moon.
giving in to the power of the magical moon.

doesn't it look like the moon is wearing a pine needle hat...

oOo

inspired by the moon and the skeleton trees of winter...
here's a note card i painted with acrylics...

enjoy the scents of nutmeg or mint
the taste of apples, nuts & wine
the feel of smooth black stones, obsidian or jet
the colors of black, orange, white, silver or gold
black cats, bats & jack-o-lanterns
dark mysteries
deadly nightshade, mugwort, sage, mandrake, oak leaves
celebrating the lives of those that have died...family, friends, pets.  the spirits of the dead. darkness~fire~hope~new dreams~new beginnings~out with the old~in with the new

o'leno's flora & fauna

nope. this picture isn't upside down.
no, you don't have to stand on your head to see it.

it's a reflection,  along the shore of the Santa Fe River,
a tributary of the Suwannee River, in O'Leno State Park...
(we love this park. not far from home, we go there a lot...for quick getaways.)

so we loaded up 'milo' (our she-cat) and got outa town over the weekend.

of course, i took an endless number of pictures...but i waded through them
and tried to pick some good ones!

enjoy your stay!

Five-lined Skink

the suspension bridge...over the Santa Fe

yep...a 'GATOR!

...waiting in line...for the rest room??!

fungi scales on a downed & rotting tree

a pile of caterpillars on the ground,,,probably got blown out of the tree the night before.
we had a ferocious thunderstorm pass through during the night.

a damselfly resting on a cypress knee in the river

weeeeeeeeeeeee.  ready for take-off...

stay cool.  be safe.

friday's fringe - 20 (night time ribbet!)

a couple of back door visitors.
clinging to the sliding glass door.
hoping the light from inside will tempt some tasty morsels to come within their tongue's reach.

(more) feathers and frog, spider, lizard !

i know i have a lot of catching up to do.
BUT
since my birthday was yesterday...
i didn't want this to all be OLD news. old pictures.

early yesterday morning, i asked sam if he wanted to brave the 'skeeters'...
and wander out back.   yep!

i just KNEW i was going to find a few feathers!
after all...finding a feather is a message...letting you know that a spirit is nearby.
someone who has passed away...who you were close to. someone who cared.

I FOUND ELEVEN FEATHERS!!

that's more than i ever expected...and more than i've ever found in a day...
unless there was a dead bird attached. which there wasn't.

that's a lot of spirit signs...i felt good.

yesterday i also saw a teeny-weeny frog on a hibiscus leaf...

(it rained on and off during the morning.
by the afternoon...we were in the midst of a downpour that never let up.)

and the underside of a 'banana' (Golden Silk Orb Weaver) spider...

(the rain put a damper on the BBQing  sam had planned to do,
it just didn't happen.  so we ordered out.)

AND a baby lizard...an Anole, on a planter,
changing from green to brown (or vice-versa)

we all hung out at home...us and my sons.
we watched "The Hunger Games".
maybe if i hadn't read all 3  books first, i would've thought the movie was ok.
but no one was how i had them pictured in my mind...
and there was SO MUCH missing!!
if you see the movie, and liked it...READ the book!!

THANKS so much to everyone who visited my previous post.
thanks for ALL your good wishes...humor...kind words...
and for taking the time to read and leave a note!
thanksthanksthanks!

SO
see you this week...as i get caught up in your part of the world!

stay cool.  be safe.

from my puddle to yours...

ribbet!
HEY there!  laura wanted me to jump in here and let you know
that she & sam are leaving ME  in charge this weekend.
they're taking Milo, and going camping.
JUST for the weekend. Just a couple of nights.

it's raining right now...so i gotta hurry through this.
ribbet!

laura gave me a quick computer lesson and
asked if i wouldn't mind picking out a couple of pictures...
so you'll have more to see...than just ME!
ribbet!  ribbet!
 ***

this is my cousin Vinnie...trying to catch a snooze in the collard greens!

 ***
this is my BIG uncle Louie, trying to make himself invisible...
trying to squeeeeeze into the corner...
doesn't he know he's not gonna go 'camo' like the lizards!?
he's BIG and MEAN and GREEN...there's just no denying it!

 ***
here's my niece Fiorella. she may look small...dainty...as pretty as a flower...
but she sure can HOLLER...
her CROAKS have been known to wake the neighbors!

 ***
and this is Fiorella's little brother. yeah, my nephew. we call him 'bones'.
he eats and eats and eats...and just never seems to gain anything.
(unlike uncle Louie!  ssssshhh...don't tell him i said that...)

 ***
and finally...my best bud.  the coolest dude. Demetrio.
 we've been hanging out FOREVER!

anyway...i really have to split.
it's still raining...and a frog just has to be a frog...
ribbet!

so, from my puddle to yours...
have a weekend filled with good wishes...

stay cool.
laura will be back monday...

>Ponzio

(put in a good word for me, will ya')

(OH yeah, and if you leave me a note...
maybe i can hop on over to your place sometime...)
