hallowed be thy moon & bones, fungi & spiders

2012.9.30  -  9pm
“Suddenly the day was gone,
night came out from under each tree and spread.”
~Ray Bradbury, The Halloween Tree

my favorite time of year.
the month with my favorite holiday!

on the 1st of october...skeletons, skulls, goblins, spiders, and other creatures of the night...
start to appear on shelves, counter tops, on the mantel,
and creeping across the floor...of our home.

some bargain with me to stay out all year long.

it's that time of year to reflect. to remember those who have passed.
out with the old...move on...start anew.
autumn to winter.  the cool crisp clear air.
the fiery hues of leaves...falling & crunching under foot...leaving behind skeleton trees.
i get energized. rejuvenated.

SO
to welcome october
i thought a little spiders, fungi, bones & the full moon would be about right!

ALL the spiders & fungi were spotted here...around our home...
outside that is!

enjoy!

oh, i know, some of you stopping by don't care for spiders.
don't worry...they can't jump off the screen at you...
and crawl up your face...into your hair.

at least i don't think so!!

    2. I saw that moon out my window last night...I took a pic of it this morning when it was still hanging in the sky.

We'll see if it came out, the G12 isn't great at the moon pics.

  9. Magical. Especially the larger shots of the mushroom tops. That is absolutely cool. You have some really unique spiders and things growing around your place. I am looking forward to the month of October and hope you also have things to enjoy this month.....I may be inspired to make pumpkin cookies for my birder friends.

  13. Happy October, Laura! I do not mind the spiders, some are kind of cool looking. but I do feel like something is crawling on me. It could be one of those nasty stink bugs. Do you have them? Great shots of the moon and I love all the mushrooms. The quote is great too, have a wonderful day!

  16. Oh my gosh I'm scared half to death ;>).....(Actually, I like creepy crawlies and I LOVE those snake bones.) The fungi are wonderful around your place; it really does look like Fall (which I don't think of as typical Florida). So I'm really glad you showed this. I also like your reference to October being a month to remember those who have gone -- reminds me of the Mexican Day of the Dead which I always wished we celebrated.

  20. It appears you live in a place especially friendly to fuzzy, spooky and mossy. What amazing life lives there!

Or, as Miranda said, "O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!"

  23. Laura you have some wonderful captures. I admit that I am not a fan of Halloween but I do put out a few autumn themed decorations and will add a few hanging ghost for the trick or treater's.
