things that go bump in the night...

bump,
ribbet,
the silent weaving of webs,
and meow.

as darkness swallows the day
and the moon rises...

the day-time sleepers come out to play
and forage.  munch.

“Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.”
~ J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

some frogs have learned to hang out by the year-round twinkling porch lights...
anxiously awaiting the unaware bugs the lights attract.

one...two...three.

mmmmmm, midnight snacks.

trekking up the little frog chime...

and then there are the little frogs that choose to stay a bit closer to the ground...
where the toads are.
hmmmm, i guess they prefer the crawling bugs to the flying ones.  meatier?

LOOK OUT FROGS!!
this guy is heading to the porch roof...where the lights are...where the frogs are...
(harmless) yellow rat snake

a couple of silent night-time weavers...

  1. It's like Halloween everyday at your house!!! These images are really fun. Snakes, frogs...toads I'd be okay with snakes crawling up things as long as they never enter the house:) Then I'd have issues....well I have them anyway:)

  2. I remember the tree frogs from Jekyll Island, Ga. vacations: They'd climb up the brightest windows at night and wait for moths.

Does that yellow rat snake eat frogs, I wonder? I think they are programmed to search for rodents and other warm-blooded prey, but I could be wrong.

(And I love Mr. or Mrs. Toad, of course ;)

  8. I love tree frogs and toads, so this was a wonderful post for me! The harmless yellow rat snake isn't so harmless to the tree frogs, though--lol!
Emo looks so handsome!! And relaxed in that last comfy pose.
I'm not on facebook, so I have to wait until you visit your blog. But you are worth waiting for, so I'm okay with that. ;)

  9. PS
I think the three tree frogs might be missing a bug critter hiding behind the yellow bulb? do I see legs there?

  11. I hate spider pics but that red femured thingymabob is kind of cool looking, as I flew past it.

Funny story: I was walking down the street with Dave one evening when a frog jumped and crashed into my leg. It was too dark to see what it was, so it's entirely possible (nay, probable) that I screamed LOL!

  12. Wow, those little frogs on the lite strings! Actually, that is really cool...because, you know, most of them stay closer to the ground. And, the snake-on a mission, eh? Great photos Laura, and great to see you here. Emo is looking good, staying on the job! Have a great weekend!

  19. Just stopping bye to say Hi. Fascinated as always with frogs.
Kateri, I recently found a tree frog while picking raspberries. But like always it is years between times when I see them. Sad to see their decline.
