just a sliver away from full! tuesday! FULL! |
yesterday we needed a break,
from all the sawing, collecting...
hauling & burning...
of the downed trees and limbs left in tropical storm debby's wake.
so we took a short drive north,
to one of our favorite florida state parks...Stephen Foster.
it's on the Suwannee River.
sam drives by there each day on his way to work...
and he wanted to show me how HIGH the water is.
the banks over flowing.
we had to go some round about ways to get there because
so many roads are closed and still under water.
just outside the park entrance, is the Spring House.
the water is OVER the second floor.
in the park itself, all the trails were closed because of the flooding.
this is a gazebo in the park...where they hold weddings and stuff.
pretty much underwater.
a water fountain...
at least not EVERYTHING was underwater...
we spotted this rabbit just before he hopped away.
stairs...
which head down to a small shore line area.
you can see how much the water has already receded...
by the water marks on the trees and the wood braces.
a blue jay feather...
on our trek to the canoe launch...
under water.
i think the 'gators saw a comma on that sign...
because we didn't see any! alligators, that is.
ALLIGATORS, NO SWIMMING!
(get it?!)
OH, and what would you think if i didn't have a mushroom picture here?
nice grouping of fungi at Stephen Foster.
we wanted to go check out Suwannee Lake and also Suwannee River State Park,
but we gave up. too many closed roads. we were riding in circles.
so we headed back home...and continued to burn...
stay cool & be safe.

Wow, so much water. I hope it all recedes somewhere. Hubby is kidding now about my wanting to move to Florida when I retire. We have been hearing about all the damage Debby did to Florida. I hope you are safe where you are living. Amazing photos, I wish you a happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteCan you send some of that water out to Wyoming?
ReplyDeletei tried! i tried!! i won't give up! :)
DeleteAmazing - sounds like my friends in Utah and Colorado could definitely use some of that water, too.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side: great photos, and that one of the steps going down into the 'lake' is spectacular!
I love the photo of the fire with the sparks flying...beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm so glad that you didn't have to deal with that flooding at your house. The downed tree and branches are plenty to deal with. Amazing how high it was and how much it has gone down already. Thanks for showing us. I hope you took the bluebird feather. ;)
ReplyDeleteyep!! the feather is at home...with lots of other found feathers! :)
DeleteOh my, it's still quite a mess in areas, with all the flooding! Those are some amazing photos you captured. I especially like all the many reflections (sorry that it's all so flooded)...your fire looks lovely too. An awesome way to kick back and try to reflect on the good around you.... :) Good luck with all the rest of your clean up too.
ReplyDeletegreat photos of the flood, hope you're nearing the end of the burning X
ReplyDeleteBeautiful walk you were taking, brilliant photos.
ReplyDeleteDitto. Brilliant is always the word to describe Laura's creativity.
Deleteyour fire shots are so beautiful. the flooding is pretty amazing.
ReplyDeletei lost internet svc for 3 days. just got it back. tried to comment on this yesterday but cell phones can only handle so much - svc in the country... :)
i know what yu mean...we lose service here ;at the end of the line' often...for no apparent reason!
DeleteLaura. Happy fourth of July! Wow! You took very breath-taking shots of what occurred in Florida. There's so much talk about Colorado that I was unaware of what occurred in your state. I am grateful for the information and I hope you stay safe and picturiffic!
ReplyDeleteIt is said, if mankind will understand the forces of tides, it will be like discovering fire for the second time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful journey through nature. Way too long since last I saw a forest. Please have you all a good Wednesday.
Wow!!! Thanks for the tour. Nasty nasty weather. That is a lot of rain! I hope the mosquitoes aren't bad. Yuck! Hopefully the water levels go down. And I am thinking that being an alligator would be awesome right now:)
ReplyDeletethe mosquitoes are ravenous!! you can barely go outside without being swarmed! ugh!
DeleteWhat amazing photos! that really is a flood! I am so glad that you are safe and I hope you have a safe and fun 4th! I still can't believe how deep that water is!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of water. Does that mean there'll now be a lot of snakes looking for slightly higher ground?!
ReplyDeleteoh....i'm sure...LOTS of critters looking for higher ground...
DeleteBreath taking photos! Love them all. I especially like the fire shots.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Thanks for the Florida update and for another State Park to add to my "must visit next season" list (hopefully Debby repairs will be completed and no more storms the rest of the season)....Jeez -- apparently you (personally) had no damage from the storms?
ReplyDeleteAnd must add, I always love your wordplay!
we had minimal damage, compared to some other people...just a few downed trees and one hit the roof, broke a skylight, and vents on top of the camper...we'll recover...
DeleteOh these are beautiful yet scary pics. Isn't it to bad we cannot move some of that water to where it is needed.
ReplyDeleteAlligators oh my. We don't have them here on the farm. Love your fire photos. B
aw well, at least you had a nice drive and got some good photos - yep, and even another beaut mushroom! There's still a lot of water lying around all right. Ha ha, had a laugh at the sign - guess the alligators got the message... didn't see any photos of them swimming! Cheers Laura and hope you get your clean-up all done soon :D)
ReplyDeleteTHANKS to everyone who stopped by and took the time to leave a note!! our 'burn pile' is dwindling...BUT still LOTS more to collect. repairs on the house & camper not yet complete...
ReplyDeleteLaura, you and Sam have been so busy and I wish we could burn again here...but no rain in weeks...so nice to see all that water and hear you went canoeing!...:)JP
