friday's fringe - 12 (stinky)




a 'stink bug' nymph clinging to a couple of dried pine needles



every friday. one of my nature shots.
(with an occasional 'morph' tossed in now and then)

    1. i never noticed a 'stink'...but supposedly they DO...stink that is! :)

    2. They only stink if you touch them. And they don't spray on you or anything, but they do leave a pungent residue. Not rotten-smelling, but still not pleasant.

  3. Very nice picture. I tried taking a picture yesterday of an interesting insect. However, our weather has been so humid as soon as I took my camera out of our air conditioned house, the lens steamed up so bad I couldn't get a picture!

  5. Gorgeous photo. I remember the first time I encountered one of these, in a classroom during the first week at a new teaching gig. One of the students thought he would be gallant, and smashed it with a book. Gallant indeed! The whole hall stunk for nearly a month!

    I've never heard of them before - maybe we don't get them here in Scotland - thank goodness. :)

    1. yeah, she IS pretty...and there are so many different stink bugs...i wonder if each different kind...has a different unique STINK??!! :)

  9. It's like the tricerotops of bugs!!! That is one nice detailed macro! They do stink and my cats usually get sprayed:) because there is a funky smell in the room:)

  13. Hi Laura, cool photo, and the little stinker appears to be illuminated! I heard in some areas of the country they are plentiful this year. I've only seen one...gag! Don't want to get close enough to smell one tho! Nice Friday Fringe, lil' lady!!! xxoo

  14. Our versions of these guys are incredibly stinky - especially if you get one in the house and then it decides to perfume the air -- yuuck revolting!
