winged things & the moon

'incoming!!'  Yellow-rumped warblers in winter plumage

(i had no idea what these birds were.
i was going nuts searching through my bird books and online.
a friend of mine e-mailed this picture to
the Alachua County Audubon Society Pres. she ID'd it!)

* * *

the past couple of weeks i see the same Red-bellied woodpecker
tapping away every afternoon in the same spot, on the same tree.
at first i thought he was bug hunting.
now i realize he's making a nest.  his hidey-hole. literally.

looks like he's almost finished!

* * *

last weekend we did a one night getaway at

and spotted a couple of 'winged things'...

Zebra Swallowtail

Little Blue Heron

* * *

from our campsite.
at first the moon was hidden behind the trees...

then...a clear shot of the (almost) full moon. 3.7.15.

"The night walked down the sky with the moon in her hand."

life's a journey. enjoy the ride.

  1. I just adore those little old Heron's! Your Mr. Woody's cousins are busy in my yard this morning! Your critters always make my day, and soon enough, I'll be having my own gathering around here. I think spring has sprung! Enjoy your day!

  8. Oh, I hope you have baby woodpeckers this spring!! Cool!
    Butterflies! Wow! Spring has apparently arrived earlier than usual up here, but we are nowhere near butterflies--LOL! I love seeing all your pictures. Well, maybe the exception is the big spiders--ROFL! They are even pretty, though. Just wouldn't want to see them for real. ;)
    Happy spring!!! :):)

  10. Woodpeckers are preparing a place for their children and have to work hard in August at the same time. The butterfly is wonderful, and even the moon in the tree looks beautifully. Regards.

  11. Those peckerheads can do a lot of damage to a tree. In over 35 years of their work, we've lost 2 beautiful maples in the front yard. One to go.

  12. Adore the woodpecker/home builder. What a nice series. And lovely night skies! It is a little breezy here, so I'll put this note under a rock;))

  14. astonishing shot of the moon! We have a wood pecker that thinks our chimney is a good bet for bugs. the sound travels down through the fireplace and becomes very loud. Startling! My cockatiel freaks out every time
