whispers...and a bone doodle

People can't concentrate properly on blowing other people to pieces
if their minds are poisoned by thoughts suitable to the twenty-fifth of December.
~Ogden Nash

love.giving.peace.gratitude.sharing.hope.forgiveness.charity.
these should be part of our world all year...not just for christmas.

Christmas - that magic blanket that wraps itself about us,
that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance.
It may weave a spell of nostalgia.
Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer,
but always it will be a day of remembrance -
a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.
~Augusta E. Rundel

what i've loved and miss the most...
the hugs. the whispers. the secrets between my self and my brother & sister.
not being able to pick up the phone and call them.
not being able to hear their voices....their laughs!

but they're with me still. in my mind. in my heart.
if you look closely
you can see their reflection in my eyes...
in my tears...and in my smile.

i celebrate christmas in a non-religious kind of way.
not because i'm of another religion.
(i like the feeling of christmas. the lights. the decorations...)

as far as religion...to each his own.
so many different beliefs,
and  (for the most part)  the basis for
so much prejudice. hatred. and closed minds.

o~o~o~o~o~o

from our home to yours...
have a merry...happy...joyous...memorable 'whatever you celebrate'...
and a healthy & prosperous new year!

let's open our eyes and ears and mind...

let's listen closely to the whispers of the earth. of nature.
we are all one. we are all connected.

  2. It's late, but I wanted to read your post-glad I did because I was just thinking those same sort of things. I could never have put them into words as eloquently as you did. Merry, Happy Christmas Laura, Sam and Milo!

By the way, how do you get the animated things on your posts? Like the little string of Christmas lites the other day? They're really cool-not too much fanfare. And the bone doodles rock!

  3. Wonderful post, Laura - as usual. Christmas should be time of remembering those loved ones, both still with us, and not. For many, it stirs up feelings of happy nostalgia or deep sadness. I agree that we should practice those "warm fuzzy" feelings year round, certainly not just at Christmas. As for your comments about religion - I couldn't agree more. It is a source of sadness and frustration to me that many of the world's religions, which should provide not only personal strength and stablility, but also a means of true compassion and understanding of others, too often DO become a convenient excuse for arrogance, prejudice, and hatred. As you so eloquantly stated - also closed minds. We are ideed all connected - if only we all could see and value that fact!

Have a relaxing holiday & ENJOY that campout! You & Sam be sure to find some of that mistletoe to stand under...G;-)

  9. Wonderful thoughts. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I'm behind on reading blogs due to the continuing computer handicap. A new one wasn't in my Christmas--we had to replace the heating and cooling system which finally gave up the ghost the first week in December. Well, there are worse things than not getting to use the computer as frequently as I'd like. :)

  12. Thank you LauraK,
You never stop being amazing... wondered how I would locate Hexenessel to let her know of changes.
Felt I had seen her before.
Visited your new Posting.... do very much love Mushys.. as you say... the variety is a continual splendour, and they like being photographed... writes me way back here instead of there...
